Private schools offer several routes for expatriate and Qatari families. The cited research records 209,088 pupils across 334 private schools in Qatar in 2022. These are dated national figures, not a current Doha school count. Compare individual schools by curriculum, available places and support. ↗

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education oversees private-school licensing and fee approval. Each school publishes or issues its own approved schedule and admission and transfer requirements, which are more useful for planning than a general description of the market.

Reporting on the June 2026 School Fees Policy describes a unified framework for private schools and kindergartens. The reported provisions include: ↗

• Advance notice: reporting describes an 18-month implementation period for approved increases from 2027–28.
• Phased increases: the reported policy requires justification for increases and spreads approvals above 5% across two consecutive academic years. Do not infer a permitted increase for a particular school from this summary.
• Standardised schedules: request the Ministry-approved fee schedule, including additional charges and any approved changes.

The same reporting states that 99 schools applied for increases in the 2026–27 pilot cycle, with 54 approved and 22 rejected; the remaining 23 applications are not accounted for in that report.

A secondary comparison guide gives indicative tuition ranges of QAR 6,000–18,000 for Indian-curriculum schools, the low QAR 20,000s to mid QAR 70,000s for British schools and QAR 35,000–80,000 for American schools. These broad ranges exclude some additional charges. The dated school examples below are more useful for a family budget. ↗

• Doha College, 2026–27: a not-for-profit British school at Al Wajba. Annual tuition is QAR 41,151 in Years 1–6 and QAR 74,841 in sixth form, plus annual capital charges of QAR 8,000 in primary or QAR 5,000 in secondary. Registration is QAR 3,650, with examinations and other extras charged separately. ↗
• DESS, 2025–26: a not-for-profit British preparatory school in Fereej Kulaib teaching FS1–Year 8. Tuition is QAR 38,120 for FS1–Year 6, QAR 48,500 for Year 7 and QAR 49,500 for Year 8, plus QAR 2,750 registration and other charges. Families must plan a subsequent school transfer. ↗
• American School of Doha, 2025–26: tuition plus annual capital is QAR 47,520 for Pre-K, QAR 75,582 for Kindergarten–Grade 5 and QAR 93,905 for Grades 6–12. These totals exclude registration, application and other charges. See the ASD profile for the breakdown.
• ACS Doha, 2025–26: cited tuition runs from QAR 51,309 for Pre-K/Kindergarten to QAR 80,465 for Grades 7–12, plus an annual QAR 5,352 capital charge. ↗
• Compass, 2026–27: published Madinat Khalifa and Themaid tuition ranges from QAR 45,000 in Early Years 1 to QAR 68,342 in the listed secondary bands. Annual resources add QAR 3,866 at Madinat Khalifa or QAR 3,980 at Themaid. ↗
• Other options: Sherborne Qatar, King’s College Doha, Qatar International School, Park House English School and Swiss International School Qatar offer further programmes to compare. Obtain each school’s current approved fees, subjects and available year groups rather than treating these schools as interchangeable.

The linked Doha British School policy describes transfer deadlines, approval requirements and age placement for its admissions process. Rules differ by school, entry year and whether a child is arriving from overseas or transferring within Qatar, so a January application deadline or stated age cut-off at one school is not a citywide rule. ↗

At DESS, an offered place is secured by paying the specified term-fee and registration invoice by its due date. Its QAR 2,000 reservation payment is credited against tuition. Other schools have different terms. Keep a record of offer deadlines and distinguish credited payments from additional charges.

Qatar Foundation operates schools with different programmes and purposes, including Qatar Academy schools, Awsaj Academy, Renad Academy and Qatar Academy for Science and Technology. Qatar Academy Doha publishes its own admissions priorities, including categories for Qatar Foundation staff children and Qatari applicants. That policy should not be assumed to cover the entire network. ↗

Ask the particular Qatar Foundation school how its eligibility, assessments and priority categories apply to your child. Specialist provision requires an individual discussion of needs and available support. Employer affiliation or nationality alone does not secure a place.

If your employment offer includes school support, obtain the amount and payment dates in writing, including the number of children covered and whether capital charges, registration, transport and examination fees qualify. Compare the allowance with the full written quotation for your family.

Additional costs can include application and assessment, registration, annual capital or resource charges, transport, uniforms, devices and examinations. ASD’s cited capital charge reaches QAR 14,600 annually from Kindergarten, illustrating why a generic range can understate costs. Separate refundable deposits and credited reservation payments from extra charges.

Use current campus addresses when comparing homes. Doha College is at Al Wajba, ASD is on Al Bustan Street and DESS is in Fereej Kulaib; Compass has several campuses. Test the actual journey at school times and confirm bus routes, pick-up points and after-activity arrangements before choosing housing.
