Public-school eligibility is restricted, so private schooling is an important part of planning for most expatriate families. Exceptions may apply to certain categories and should be confirmed directly. The cited 2021–22 figures record 180,247 non-Kuwaiti pupils and 74,893 Kuwaiti pupils in private education; these are historical national totals. ↗

Kuwait City and its surrounding districts offer several international and bilingual programmes. British and American schools are among the options, alongside IB, Canadian, French and Indian provision. Compare qualifications, support and entry requirements rather than treating all schools within a curriculum category as equivalent. ↗

The cited government investment guide describes a 3% threshold for annual fee increases, with larger rises requiring Ministry permission. The guide is older and should not be treated as approval for a current increase; each school’s approved schedule and its effective date are what apply. ↗

International programmes operate alongside national subject requirements, including Arabic and Islamic studies for Muslim pupils. Schools run separate Arabic pathways for native speakers and children new to the language.

For external evidence, ask for the latest inspection or accreditation report and read its date, scope and findings. British Schools Overseas, Middle States and other accreditors use different frameworks. Membership of an association such as COBIS is distinct from accreditation; neither a membership logo nor parent reputation replaces the underlying evidence.

Compare fees in Kuwaiti dinars for the same academic year and your child’s actual grade. The examples below distinguish published schedules, secondary listings and quotations available on request. Additional charges may apply.

• The English School (TES): a not-for-profit British school in Salmiya, founded in 1953. Historically serving ages 3–13, it launched Year 9 in 2025 and plans expansion through Year 11. Its undated fee page lists KWD 1,741 for Kindergarten, KWD 2,735 for Reception–Year 2, KWD 3,135 for Years 3–6 and KWD 3,435 for Years 7–10. ↗
• The British School of Kuwait (BSK): a Nord Anglia school in Salwa with a five-term teaching calendar. Its Accounts Team provides fees on request; a secondary guide estimates KWD 2,800–5,200 annually, which is not a confirmed quotation. Published payment options include three instalments of 40%, 30% and 30%. ↗
• The American School of Kuwait (ASK): International Schools Database lists 2026–27 tuition of KWD 3,314 for Kindergarten, KWD 4,306 for Grades 1–5, KWD 4,636 for Grades 6–8 and KWD 5,191 for Grades 9–12, with a refundable KWD 100 deposit.
• American International School Kuwait: cited 2025–26 figures range from KWD 2,650 for KG2 to KWD 4,531 for Grades 9–12, with KWD 100 registration.
• Kuwait English School: cited 2025–26 tuition ranges from KWD 1,778 for KG1 to KWD 4,800 for Grades 11–12.
• Kuwait American School, Salmiya: its 2025–26 schedule lists KWD 1,756 for KG1 to KWD 3,488 for Grades 9–12, with instalments due on 1 September, 1 January and 1 March. ↗

Common application documents include previous school reports, a birth certificate, passports, residence information, Civil IDs and vaccination records; some schools accept certain documents after arrival. Places are allocated by year group, so general waiting-list reports say little about your child’s chances. ↗

Payment calendars vary. TES lists September, December and April instalment dates, while BSK describes a 40/30/30 split and Kuwait American School lists September, January and March dates in its cited schedule. If your employer provides an allowance, its timing may not match those dates.

Mid-year applications may be possible when places and suitable programmes are available. Contact the intended schools about entry dates, subject continuity and support. Keep alternatives under consideration until offers are confirmed.

Use exact campus addresses when comparing homes: TES is in Salmiya, BSK in Salwa and ASK in Hawalli. Other school options are spread across Jabriya and districts farther south. Test the journey to the actual entrance during school drop-off and collection, rather than relying on a neighbourhood name or a fixed driving radius. ↗

School buses run set routes, and late buses after activities are not universal. In the hot months, air-conditioned buses and indoor waiting areas matter. Compare the school journey with your work journey before choosing housing.
