What the school is

History, status and local requirements

The cited academic study describes ASK as a US State Department-assisted school, with approximately a third of pupils American, a third Kuwaiti and a third from other countries. These are study-era figures, not current proportions.

The study describes national Arabic and Islamic studies requirements and local recognition of the high school diploma. Ask the school which subjects apply to your child, how language pathways are assigned and what is needed for Kuwaiti certificate equivalency. University entry conditions vary, and a school diploma does not automatically meet all of them.

ASK operated at Salwa and Surra before closing during the 1990–91 invasion year. It reopened in autumn 1991 and consolidated at Hawalli in 1994. Independent profiles describe the school as privately owned.

The American diploma and the AP pathway

The high school follows an American college-preparatory programme with AP courses. Middle States accreditation provides external evidence about the school, while local regulatory oversight is a separate matter. AP subjects can carry prerequisites and timetable restrictions.

Recent AP and SAT outcomes and university destinations are not covered by the sources cited here. A third-party profile describes a September–June school year and no uniform requirement.

Fees and the real annual budget

The school’s 2026–27 schedule lists annual tuition of KWD 3,314 for KG1 and KG2, KWD 4,306 for Grades 1–5, KWD 4,636 for Grades 6–8 and KWD 5,191 for Grades 9–12, paid in three instalments due 1 September 2026, 4 January 2027 and 1 March 2027. An optional one-hour Extended Day Care programme for KG1–KG2 costs KWD 250 a year. A KWD 100 tuition deposit, non-refundable and non-transferable under Ministry of Education rules, reserves the seat with the enrolment form. The school says fees may change with Ministry approval; fee-increase rules are described only in an older investment guide that predates the current fee year.

Secondary guides differ on upfront charges, describing registration, deposits or both. Request an itemised quotation showing which payments are additional, credited against tuition or refundable, including transport, books, activities and AP examinations. Generic AP exam-price estimates can omit local administration charges.

Application steps, assessment arrangements and available places are handled by admissions for each child. Common documents include school reports, passports, Civil IDs and vaccination records; some items may follow after arrival.

The school’s elementary, middle and high-school divisions share the Hawalli site. That may help families with siblings, though places, daily schedules and activity times are set by division.
