Dubai international school fees: what every profiled school charges in 2026-27

A Year-7 place at a profiled Dubai school in 2026-27 costs between roughly AED 65,224 (Dubai International Academy, Years 7-9 band↗) and AED 127,103 (NLCS Dubai, Grades 6-8 band — the most expensive published tuition in the city↗). On 22 May 2026 the KHDA froze tuition citywide for 2026-27, so the 2025-26 schedule is the 2026-27 schedule almost everywhere — but the freeze covers tuition only, and transport, registration and ancillary charges can still rise↗.

Budget the first year as tuition plus a joining stack: an application fee of AED 500-525 per school (families commonly apply to three to five), a registration deposit of 5-10% of annual tuition, and at some schools a debenture — AED 30,000 refundable at Dubai College, AED 20,000 refundable at JESS. Then add the recurring non-tuition lines: the bus (roughly AED 6,000-11,500 a year by school and zone), EAL/ELL surcharges where assessed (AED 4,500-10,000 a year), and exam fees in the senior years.

Latest published schedule per school, verified on 2 September 2026. “Year-7-equivalent” is the band containing a twelve-year-old. Each school name links to its NewSchoolRun profile, where the same figures carry their individual sourcing. Rows marked “aggregator-sourced” reproduce the KHDA fee fact sheet via a reputable third party because the school’s own page was not retrievable; treat those as medium confidence and confirm with admissions.

Three honest footnotes. Kings’ School Dubai is primary-only and its figures come from aggregator reproductions of the KHDA fee fact sheet — the school’s own site blocks automated retrieval — so verify before relying on them. SISD’s table row is the IB bilingual stream from the official PDF; the English STEAM stream’s day fees could not be confirmed first-party and are excluded. NLCS Dubai’s acceptance deposit is recorded as a flat AED 10,000 by one aggregator and as 10% of tuition in a school fee document — an unresolved conflict, so we quote neither as definitive.

What tuition leaves out

The Dubai hidden-cost stack

Dubai’s stack is milder than Hong Kong’s or Singapore’s, but it has four layers parents consistently miss:

• Deposits and re-registration. The standard pattern is 10% of annual tuition for new joiners and 5% for returning students, deductible from fees (Repton, GWA, Jumeirah College, DAA↗↗). Kings’ School Dubai is the outlier at a 25% new-student registration deposit, while DESC replaces percentage deposits with flat fees (AED 3,000-7,500)↗. Deductible is not the same as free: the cash leaves your account months before the first term.
• Debentures. Dubai College asks new joiners for a refundable AED 30,000 personal debenture↗. JESS personal debentures cost AED 20,000, refundable, and — critically — do not give waitlist priority; the corporate debentures held by 170+ employers do, including the right to apply after the Jumeirah waitlist closes↗. If your employer holds one, that is an admissions asset worth more than the money.
• Bus transport. Not frozen. Operators raised bus fees 3-4% for 2026-27 despite the tuition freeze, citing fuel and fleet costs↗. Published figures: Dubai College AED 2,500 per term both ways (about AED 7,500 a year↗), Repton AED 6,100-11,500 by zone, GWA AED 6,450-9,850 (KHDA optional-fees schedules via Bayut). Two children on buses can add AED 15,000-20,000 to the year.
• EAL/ELL surcharges and exam fees. DAA introduces an AED 10,000-a-year ELL charge from 2026-27 — proof that ancillary fees move even in a freeze year↗. DIA charges AED 4,500 a year for EAL as a condition of admission where assessed↗. External exam entries (GCSE, A-level, IB) are invoiced on top at DESC and Jumeirah College among others. At GWA, 1:1 learning support assistants run AED 20,100-67,000 a year on the KHDA optional-fees schedule where required.

Boarding is the extreme case for the two schools that offer it: Repton charges AED 66,500 (weekly) to AED 72,000 (full) a year on top of day tuition, plus a refundable AED 50,000 boarding deposit↗; SISD’s full boarding runs AED 237,475-254,968 a year all-in for Grades 6-12↗.

The regulator

How the KHDA caps fees — ECI, ratings and the freeze

Dubai does not let schools raise tuition at will. Each year the KHDA sets an Education Cost Index — 2.6% for 2024-25, 2.35% for 2025-26 — and eligible for-profit schools apply individually for increases tied to it. Under the standing School Fees Framework the permitted increase is a multiple of the ECI set by the school’s inspection rating and its movement: roughly 1.5-2.0x the ECI in an upgrade year, the ECI itself for a maintained rating, and nothing after a downgrade; schools under three years old are ineligible↗↗. Then came the freeze. On 22 May 2026, under directives of the Crown Prince of Dubai as part of a wider economic incentives package, the KHDA confirmed tuition fees are frozen citywide for 2026-27. Three mechanics matter for budgeting↗:

• Tuition only. Registration, transport, uniforms, devices, activities and trips are not frozen. DAA’s new AED 10,000 ELL charge and the 3-4% bus-fee rises both landed in a freeze year.
• Grade progression still costs more. A child moving into a higher year group pays that grade’s published rate — a JESS child moving from Year 6 (AED 65,097) to Year 7 (AED 91,923) feels a 41% “increase” that is entirely within the frozen schedule.
• The freeze is one year. From 2027-28 the rating-linked machinery restarts, and the grades published in the 2026-27 inspection cycle will directly shape what schools may charge next. Multi-year budgets should assume ECI-linked increases resume.

Two smaller rules worth knowing: KHDA billing ceilings let schools collect up to 40% of annual fees in term 1 and 30% in each of terms 2 and 3 (which is why every schedule above bills 40/30/30), and not-for-profit schools may exceed the ECI-pegged cap with KHDA approval, board approval and evidence of parental endorsement — JESS raised fees 3% in secondary and 9% in its primaries for 2024-25 by that route↗.

Worked examples

Two children, three years: what to actually budget

The freeze makes year one certain; years two and three are scenarios. The examples below hold the 2026-27 published schedules flat for year one (the freeze), then apply a 2.35% ECI-style increase to tuition for 2027-28 and 2028-29 — an assumption, not a forecast — and hold bus fares flat for simplicity (they rose 3-4% this year). Deposits are excluded from cost totals because they are deductible or refundable, but they are cash you need up front.

Scenario A — premium British: Repton Dubai, children entering Year 7 and Year 5 in August 2026. Published 2026-27 tuition: Year 7 AED 81,121, Year 5-6 band AED 75,953, stepping up as each child moves year group (Year 8 AED 84,366, Year 9 AED 86,529)↗.

• Year 1 (2026-27, frozen): tuition AED 157,074; application fees AED 1,050 (two children); bus for two at a mid-zone band, about AED 16,000. Cash cost ≈ AED 174,000, plus AED 15,707 in deductible deposits (10% each) paid on acceptance.
• Year 2 (2027-28, assumed +2.35%): children now in Year 8 and Year 7 — (84,366 + 81,121) × 1.0235 ≈ AED 169,400, plus bus ≈ AED 16,500. Total ≈ AED 186,000.
• Year 3 (2028-29, assumed +2.35% again): Year 9 and Year 8 — (86,529 + 84,366) × 1.0476 ≈ AED 179,000, plus bus ≈ AED 17,000. Total ≈ AED 196,000.
• Three-year total ≈ AED 556,000 (about AED 535,000 tuition, AED 49,500 bus, AED 1,050 applications) — before exam fees, uniform, trips and devices.

Scenario B — full-IB value: Dubai International Academy, children entering Year 7 and Year 5. Published 2025-26 (frozen) tuition: Years 7-9 AED 65,224, Years 2-6 AED 57,983↗. Year 1 tuition AED 123,207; year 2 both children in the Years 7-9 band, (65,224 × 2) × 1.0235 ≈ AED 133,500; year 3 ≈ AED 136,700. Three-year tuition ≈ AED 393,400 — roughly AED 140,000 less than Scenario A over the same posting, the price of choosing the IB continuum at a Very Good school over a Nad Al Sheba campus with boarding houses. If one child is assessed for EAL, add AED 4,500 a year; application and entrance-test fees add about AED 1,050.

The transferable lesson: in Dubai the three-year number is driven less by fee inflation (capped, then frozen) than by grade-band steps and the bus. A family that budgets only the current-year tuition figure will be 15-20% light by year three even under a freeze.

• Get the allowance in AED, per child, per year — and ask whether it is pegged to a named school’s schedule or a fixed cap. A fixed cap set in 2024 erodes by the ECI every year the freeze is not renewed.
• Ask explicitly about the joining stack: does the package cover application fees (AED 500-525 × 3-5 schools), registration deposits (deductible, but cash up front), and debentures? Dubai College’s AED 30,000 and JESS’s AED 20,000 are refundable — the question is who funds the float and who banks the refund.
• Ask whether your employer holds corporate debentures. At JESS, a corporate debenture is the only way onto a closed waitlist; 170+ companies hold them at Jumeirah and 80+ at Arabian Ranches. This is worth more in negotiation than a fee top-up.
• Pin down the bus. Transport is outside the freeze and rising 3-4% a year; a “fees covered” package that excludes transport leaves AED 6,000-11,500 per child per year with you.
• Declare EAL/SEN needs early and price them. EAL is a condition of admission where assessed (DIA AED 4,500/yr; DAA AED 10,000/yr from 2026-27); 1:1 support at GWA can reach AED 67,000/yr.
