What the school is

One not-for-profit family, three schools

The DESS family comprises three schools: the original Oud Metha primary, founded in 1963; DESS Primary Academic City, opened in September 2025 across the road from the College; and DESS College. Published profiles describe approximately 1,850 College pupils from more than 70 nationalities.

The published admissions description gives DESS primary pupils an automatic College place without an internal assessment, provided their families pay the required deposit by the primary campus’s deadline. An internal pathway can help families plan the move to secondary school, but a place for one sibling does not guarantee one for another.

DESS operates on a not-for-profit basis, with fee income reinvested in the schools. The College also underwent a British Schools Overseas inspection in February 2024 under the UK Department for Education framework. Governance and inspection reports provide useful background; ask how the school’s leadership handles parent concerns and oversees provision in your child’s phase.

Examination results and inspection findings

For 2025, the reported A-level cohort comprised 246 students taking 742 examinations. Of the entries, 16.8% received A* and 44.5% A*–A, with a reported 100% pass rate. At GCSE, 259 students took 2,306 examinations: 18.4% of entries received grade 9, 59.8% grades 9–7 and 97.6% grades 9–4. Separately, 96.5% of students achieved at least five passes including English and mathematics. Reported BTEC Level 3 results included 70% of entries at Distinction* and a 100% pass rate.

The school reported that its 2025 GCSE results averaged 1.65 grades above predictions based on CAT4 assessments. This progress measure adds context to the examination results, but it depends on the prediction method and pupils included in the calculation. On its own it is a single-year, school-reported figure.

The 2023–24 KHDA inspection gave the school an Outstanding overall rating. The cited inspection summary records Very Good progress in secondary English and mathematics. Published reporting describes KHDA inspections returning in 2026–27 through a mix of full inspections and shorter monitoring visits, so a newer report may follow.

Admissions and cost

Admissions, fees and the calendar

The official 2026–27 schedule lists annual tuition of AED 84,326 for Years 7–11 and AED 90,633 for Years 12–13. Payments are divided into three instalments of approximately 40%, 30% and 30%, due on 31 August 2026, 4 January 2027 and 12 April 2027. External examination charges, including GCSE and GCE fees, are billed separately. The tuition figures are unchanged from the cited 2025–26 schedule.

According to the published admissions guide, external applicants pay a non-refundable AED 525 application fee and take an assessment. After an offer, the acceptance payment is AED 5,000 for Years 7–10 or AED 7,500 for Year 12. It is non-refundable but credited against first-term tuition, so it is not an additional charge on top of the annual tuition total. DESS primary pupils confirm their College place with an AED 3,000 deposit, and returning families pay AED 3,000 to re-register. The guide also describes sibling discounts starting at 5% for the youngest of three children.

The additional Academic City primary gives families another DESS entry route. Reviewers report growing demand for external Year 7 places; availability varies by grade and start date. Choose a primary school for its suitability as well as its onward transfer arrangements.

Travel and extracurricular activities

The College is in Academic City, near Dubai Silicon Oasis. The journey will depend on where you live, school-run traffic and whether your child travels by car or bus. Families with children at different DESS campuses have two journeys to plan.

Published profiles describe more than 120 competitive sports teams, a house system and a performing-arts programme. For a weekly routine, what matters is which teams are open to your child’s year, whether selection is required and which rehearsals or fixtures fall after school.
