Jeju Global Education City began as a national development project in 2008. The Jeju Free International City Development Center (JDC) planned an English-medium education area on roughly 3.79 million square metres in Daejeong-eup, Seogwipo. Contemporary reporting described an aim to reduce spending on overseas schooling and the long family separations associated with it. ↗

Mainland foreign schools and Jeju Global Education City schools have different admissions arrangements. Published investment materials contrast the mainland’s nationality and overseas-residence conditions with the Jeju framework. The Jeju framework allows Korean-national pupils to attend without the overseas-residence condition described for mainland foreign schools. Graduation recognition also depends on the programme and requirements completed. KIS sources describe US and Korean qualifications, while BHA’s older course guide specifies Korean language and history credits. ↗

The schedules charge tuition in both Korean won and US dollars. Both portions are payable; they are not alternative currency quotations. The examples below identify the year and distinguish annual from semester charges. Obtain a full quotation for the intended grade and boarding arrangement.

• NLCS Jeju offers a British curriculum through IGCSE, then the IB Diploma. Its 2025–26 official tuition ranges from KRW 20,199,990 plus US$11,707 in Reception to KRW 28,316,010 plus US$16,404 in Sixth Form. That older schedule also lists application and registration at KRW 400,000 each, a KRW 3 million capital fee, a KRW 5 million refundable acceptance deposit and a KRW 500,000 boarding capital fee. Older boarding tariffs range from KRW 12,225,720 for junior weekly boarding to KRW 16,910,360 for Sixth Form full boarding. Secondary 2026–27 converted tuition of about KRW 37.2–52.2 million is not an all-inclusive total or a replacement for a current quotation. ↗
• Branksome Hall Asia offers PYP, MYP and the IB Diploma. Boys have been added grade by grade since 2023; confirm current senior arrangements and boarding eligibility. Official 2026–27 tuition is KRW 21,762,000 plus US$14,148 for JK Prep–Grade 5; KRW 24,496,000 plus US$15,722 for Grades 6–10; KRW 25,080,000 plus US$17,294 for Grade 11; and KRW 26,640,000 plus US$17,294 for Grade 12. Boarding is KRW 21,520,000 full-time or KRW 17,192,000 for five days. The KRW 3 million seat deposit is credited to tuition. Reported 30% international merit awards are conditional, not automatic. • St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju offers a US Common Core programme with AP courses. Secondary sources report roughly 1,100 pupils and boarding from Grade 5; confirm current provision. Its 2026–27 elementary tuition is KRW 24,588,000 plus US$9,161. Listed charges include KRW 400,000 for application, KRW 5 million for one-time registration, KRW 3.6 million for an international student fee and KRW 4,235,000 for annual bus transport. The schedule also lists a KRW 2.5 million re-enrolment charge and 5%/10% sibling discounts; boarding is quoted separately. ↗
• KIS Jeju, opened in 2011, offers a US curriculum with AP courses and is WASC-accredited; Korean graduation recognition can carry additional requirements. Its 2026–27 tuition is per semester: KRW 8,670,000 plus US$4,382 for JK–K, rising to KRW 12,480,000 plus US$6,264 for Grade 12. Two semesters total KRW 17,340,000 plus US$8,764 or KRW 24,960,000 plus US$12,528 respectively. The entrance fee and enrolment deposit are separate KRW 3 million items; confirm deposit treatment. Application is KRW 400,000 per test attempt and programme/technology KRW 550,000 per semester. A single-room dormitory charge for Grades 8–12 is KRW 8,450,000 per semester. ↗

NLCS Jeju reports IB Diploma averages of 37.0 in 2025 and 37.1 in 2026. In 2025, it reports one score of 45, eight of 44 and 75.3% of IGCSE grades at A*/A; the group site gives 75.4% for IGCSE. Its Class of 2025 received offers from institutions including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, Pennsylvania, Cornell, Brown, Berkeley, UCLA and Toronto. BHA reports a 2024 IB average of 35, a 100% pass rate and 97% bilingual diplomas across a 70-member class. Its 72 graduates in 2026 received offers from 151 institutions in 12 countries. A secondary SJA listing quotes 99% of AP scores at 3–5, but the examination year and candidate count need confirmation. Complete recent KIS results were not publicly available. Reporting on “goose families” describes households separated across countries for children’s education. It helps explain the historical interest in a domestic English-medium school development; families choosing Jeju today arrange their households in many ways. ↗

NLCS’s older schedule includes junior weekly boarding, and BHA publishes a five-day option for 2026–27. Families considering mainland weekends should check release and return times, airport transfers, supervision and plans for disrupted flights. Frequent flights make weekly travel possible, not necessarily suitable for every child. ↗

Ask each school how many pupils remain in the houses at weekends, what activities are available and whether day pupils have weekend commitments. Admissions processes differ. NLCS describes assessment-based rolling entry through Year 12; BHA’s directory gives a December priority date whose cycle needs confirmation. SJA listings describe MAP tests in English and maths and an interview. Approximate directory acceptance rates are rough estimates and say little about a particular child’s chance or about selectivity relative to mainland schools. ↗

The campuses are in the Daejeong-eup area of Seogwipo in southwest Jeju. Compare housing with access to work, shops, services and the airport; travel times from Jeju City vary by route and time of day. Local families are a good source on transport and practical help with daily tasks. ↗

Jeju offers beaches, walking routes and access to Hallasan. Consider how your household would use these alongside work and school routines. Residence and work permission are separate from a school place, and a school offer does not settle the family’s immigration status.
