Muscat

Muscat has established international schools alongside newer campuses and a substantial Indian-school sector. British School Muscat, ABA and TAISM offer different qualification pathways. Other options include Cheltenham Muscat, opened in 2021, and Downe House Muscat, opened in 2022. Start with schools offering the subjects, support and places your children need.

Oman’s Ministry of Education oversees private schools. The linked summary of Ministerial Decision 287/2017 describes licensing, fee approval and teacher appointments. For your application, request the school’s current approved fees and written entry requirements. ↗

The published Ministry registration window for new Grade 1 private-school pupils in 2026–27 ran from 15 October 2025 to 9 July 2026. These dates have passed. Families arriving later should ask the school how registration or transfer arrangements apply to their child.

Omani and dual-national families should check eligibility with the intended school. Requirements can differ by school category, including Ministry permission and national subject provision. Historical nationality percentages are no guide to who may enrol now.

• British School Muscat: founded in 1971, with a Royal Charter from 1973. The 2026 BSO report records approximately 1,070 pupils and an Outstanding judgement. Its British pathway includes GCSEs, A-levels and BTEC options. Published 2026–27 tuition is OMR 4,400 for FS1, 5,506 for FS2, 5,920 for Years 1–2, 6,143 for Years 3–6, 8,460 for Years 7–9, 9,503 for Years 10–11 and 10,666 for Years 12–13. ↗
• ABA Oman International School: founded in 1987, offering the IB Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma programmes at Madinat Al Irfan. Published 2026–27 tuition is OMR 5,360 for KG, 5,460 for Grades 1–5, 7,650 for Grades 6–8, 8,440 for Grades 9–10 and 10,210 for Grades 11–12. The OMR 75 application fee and OMR 3,500 standard enrolment fee are additional; the 10% tuition deposit is credited against semester fees. ↗
• TAISM: opened in 1998 and offers an American diploma and AP courses in Ghala. Published 2026–27 tuition is OMR 5,790 for Pre-K, 9,290 for elementary, 11,030 for middle school and 11,560 for high school. The one-time OMR 4,500 capital levy applies from Kindergarten, subject to eligible transfer credit. ↗

The schools have different transfer provisions. BSM publishes an infrastructure-fee waiver for direct ABA or TAISM transfers where a comparable charge has been paid in full. ABA offers a conditional transfer discount, while TAISM describes credit for a capital levy already paid. Obtain written confirmation from the receiving school; these are not interchangeable policies.

Other published fee examples include Cheltenham Muscat at approximately OMR 3,785–7,875 and Muscat International School by Amity at approximately OMR 2,200–3,200 in primary. ABQ Azzan Bin Qais lists 2026–27 tuition of OMR 2,300 for KG1 to OMR 5,200 for Grade 12, plus resources. Royal Grammar School Guildford Muscat lists KG1 at OMR 2,750. Campuses and additional charges differ between these quotations.

Indian School Muscat is part of the CBSE school sector. Secondary reporting lists kindergarten tuition at approximately OMR 546 annually. The capital-area Indian-school admissions portal ran from 21 January to 21 February 2026 for 2026–27, with an OMR 15 application processing fee; the admissions body handles later applications and the next intake. ↗

Separate additional charges from payments that are credited or refundable. BSM lists an OMR 50 assessment fee, an OMR 300 reservation payment credited against first-term tuition and an OMR 100 refundable deposit. Its infrastructure charge begins from FS2. ABA’s standard enrolment fee is OMR 3,500, or OMR 4,000 under its four-year payment option for eligible families. TAISM’s OMR 4,500 levy begins at Kindergarten. Transport and examination costs are billed separately.

BSM’s schedule lists late-payment penalties rising from 5% to 10% and then 15%, as well as an advance-payment discount. Ask your employer when any school allowance will be paid and whether it covers joining charges, transport and exams as well as tuition. ↗

TAISM accepts applications throughout the year, and other schools may accept transfers when places and appropriate programmes are available. Subject continuity and support matter most during examination courses, so keep suitable alternatives open until a place is confirmed.

Use current campus addresses when assessing journeys: BSM is in Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos, ABA moved to Madinat Al Irfan in 2022, and TAISM is in Ghala. Older ABA listings may show its previous location. Drop-off, collection, bus routes and after-activity arrangements from your proposed home and workplace matter more than a single estimated drive time.
