What the school is

History and governance

In a published director interview, TAISM is described as privately incorporated in Oman, with land leased from the US Embassy. The interview states that the ambassador appoints four of seven board members. The school’s history records that George H.W. Bush laid the campus cornerstone in December 1998.

The director interview states that Omani pupils require Ministry of Education permission to enrol. Third-party profiles give varying enrolment totals of approximately 600–720 pupils and average classes of around 13–14; individual grades can run larger or smaller than the schoolwide average.

Oman’s private-school regulations include Ministry of Education oversight of licensing and fees.

Academics in practice

The American diploma, AP courses and learning support

The high school describes an American curriculum based on AERO standards, with four 80-minute classes daily on a rotating block schedule. It offers more than a dozen AP courses alongside its high school diploma. AP credit or advanced standing depends on the university, subject and examination score; taking a course does not guarantee credit.

TAISM lists NEASC accreditation and memberships in NESA, CIS and SAISA. Membership is distinct from accreditation. SAISA provides inter-school sporting and other activities. For academic comparisons, request recent AP participation, score distributions and university destinations, with cohort sizes.

A secondary guide refers to a TAISM Special Needs Profile through the US State Department’s Office of Overseas Schools. A profile is a starting point; placement and the level of support are decided for each child.

Fees and the real cost

2026–27 tuition and capital levy

For 2026–27, published annual tuition is OMR 5,790 for Pre-K3 and Pre-K4, OMR 9,290 for elementary school, OMR 11,030 for middle school and OMR 11,560 for high school. Fees are billed in two semesters. Extended-day Pre-K4 adds OMR 1,150. The school lists co-curricular activities and most materials, laptops and lockers as included; ask which trips, examinations or other services carry separate charges.

The one-time, non-refundable capital levy is OMR 4,500 per pupil from Kindergarten; it does not apply in Pre-K. The schedule allows payment over up to three years. For transfers from another Muscat international school, it describes credit for a capital levy already paid, subject to proof. Without a transfer credit, high-school tuition plus the full levy totals OMR 16,060 before other charges.

The school describes need-based assistance toward tuition or the capital levy, and instalment plans for families whose employer does not pay the fees. The published two-way bus charge cited here is OMR 1,200 for 2025–26.

Admissions

Applications, assessment and enrolment permission

TAISM accepts applications throughout the year. A secondary admissions profile describes an online application, school records, a confidential school report and academic assessment, with language assessment where needed. It also describes a non-refundable payment to reserve a place. Ask admissions to confirm the current steps, amount, deadline and whether that payment is credited against tuition.

Omani and dual-national families should ask early whether Ministry of Education permission is required and how the school assists with the process. All transferring families should discuss prior coursework, language needs and graduation requirements before accepting a place.
