School divisions, budget and campus redevelopment

Four divisions share the Woodlands site: a Reggio-inspired early learning centre, elementary and middle schools using Common Core State Standards, and a high school awarding the school’s American High School Diploma. Reported facilities include seven gymnasiums, four pools and an 850-seat auditorium. A shared campus can simplify arrangements for siblings, although their schedules may differ.

SAS publishes information about its annual budget. Its 2025–26 budget post reported planned operating expenses of S$188.1 million and a 3.5% fee increase for returning students. The post described annual increases of 2–4% over the preceding decade. Past increases are not a forecast.

The S$400 million SAS Reimagined project was announced in April 2021, with three phases scheduled to finish in autumn 2026. Plans called for rebuilding around 60% of the campus, increasing learning space by up to 30% and play space by about 84%. The design targeted net-zero energy for new construction, Green Mark Platinum and WELL standards. These are project plans and targets; confirm which facilities are now open and whether any work will affect your child’s school day.

Advanced courses and university preparation

The reviewed sources describe more than twenty AP courses and around twenty school-designed Advanced Topic courses, including Software Engineering, Linear Algebra and Molecular Biology. Counts vary by source and year, so use the current course guide when planning subjects. AT courses followed recommendations adopted in 2014 and are distinct from College Board AP courses. AP Capstone is an additional award, separate from the school’s high-school diploma. The 2024–25 planning guide limits AP exam access to students in the corresponding AP course or an associated AT course with explicit exam access.

The Interim Semester has run since 1973 and includes week-long service or study experiences. The reviewed profile describes February trips across more than twenty countries, alongside Quest and Catalyst options for interdisciplinary and individual projects. Harland reports middle-50% SAT ranges for the class of 2023 of 640–740 in reading and writing and 640–780 in mathematics. It also reports roughly 85% of graduates entering US universities; this is a destination pattern, not an admission guarantee.

SAS does not offer the IB or British school-leaving qualifications. An American diploma with suitable advanced courses can support university applications beyond the US; requirements depend on the institution and course. Chinese Immersion, launched in 2017, is described as running from PreK through Grade 5. Mandarin accounts for about 75% of teaching in Kindergarten–Grade 1, falling to about half in Grades 4–5. Students then join the standard middle-school programme with Mandarin as a world language.

Admissions and the lanes

The admissions system has four priority lanes. Lane 1 covers US citizens, Green Card holders and Guaranteed Placement Program participants. Lane 2 covers non-US families with qualifying American-company employment; Lane 3 covers applicants attending an international school; Lane 4 covers other applicants. SAS assigns the lane from the family’s documents. The published process accepts applications up to two years ahead, with August-entry offers starting in mid-February for Lane 1 and mid-March for Lanes 2–4. Waitpooled applications remain active for two years.

The school publishes grade-level space availability. Its application guide lists a non-refundable S$2,500 application fee valid for two years and requires mathematics and English teacher recommendations for middle- and high-school applicants. Accepted students must complete the required medical and vaccination documentation before attendance.

The Guaranteed Placement Program allows a company or individual to sponsor an applicant who already meets the school’s admissions requirements. It moves that applicant to the front of the Lane 1 queue for the next available placement in the relevant grade. Places under the programme are limited, and the school provides terms and pricing on request. An employer’s participation should be checked for the specific child and intended start date.

Fees and the real cost

Fees, citizenship categories and credited payments

The official 2026–27 schedule lists annual tuition of S$32,510 for Early Childhood (Preschool and Pre-K), S$37,640 for Kindergarten–Grade 5, S$41,560 for Grades 6–8 and S$43,780 for Grades 9–12. It also lists a one-time, non-refundable registration fee of S$8,660 where the student or a parent holds a US passport or Green Card, and S$9,900 otherwise. A third and subsequent child receives a 50% registration-fee discount. The S$5,500 non-refundable confirmation payment is due within seven days of accepting an offer and is applied towards total school fees; it is not an extra charge on top of that total. Annual facility fees are S$7,770–9,030 by grade and are not prorated. Foundational EAL costs S$7,230 annually for Kindergarten–Grade 3 where applicable.

For historical context, Expat Arrivals lists 2025–26 returning-student annual totals from S$36,960 for PreK to S$53,860 for Grade 12, and first-year totals including joining charges from S$46,200 to S$63,420. These are total-fee figures, not tuition-only amounts to which every fee above should be added. The 2024–25 schedule separately listed high-school annual charges of S$50,860 for Lane 1 and S$52,030 for Lanes 2–4, buses at S$1,070–2,990 per semester, AP exams at S$220 each and a high-school laptop at S$1,500–2,800. Avoid combining charges from different years.

The 2026–27 schedule includes a leave-of-absence option costing S$5,000 per child per year, providing priority for readmission for up to a year. Establish the eligibility and return conditions before relying on it for a temporary move; priority is not the same as an unconditional reserved place.

Getting to Woodlands and joining the community

The campus is at 40 Woodlands Street 41 in northern Singapore. Journey times depend on the route and school traffic, so test the trip from your shortlisted homes. SAS operates a school-bus service with distance-based fares. The S$1,070–2,990 semester bus range is from 2024–25.
