Ownership and the UK school relationship

The June 2024 ISI report identifies the operator as MEAST Sdn Bhd, wholly owned by Marlborough College Overseas Ltd, a UK company established by Marlborough College. School materials describe shared values, philosophy and personnel with the UK school. This documents an ownership relationship; ask how that relationship works in staffing, governance and pupil opportunities today.

Marlborough College’s UK website describes MCM as its sister school and records collaboration between them. Other published credentials include HMC membership, COBIS Beacon recognition, Boarding Schools’ Association awards and appearances in the 2021–22 Spears/Schools Index. Memberships, awards and editorial lists are different from inspection findings and should not be combined into a quality ranking.

The June 2024 inspection counted 731 day pupils and 169 boarders, with 207 pupils in pre-prep, 317 in prep, 240 in seniors and 136 in sixth form. Other publications describe roughly 60 resident staff and use different boarding proportions and dates. These snapshots come from different years.

Academics and inspection

IGCSE, the IB Diploma and the June 2024 inspection

MCM’s first British Schools Overseas inspection in June 2024 found that it met all BSO standards. Inspectors described teachers’ subject understanding, pupil progress and opportunities for pupils to contribute their views. This is a dated finding under the overseas inspection framework; it is not a ranking against other Malaysian schools or a guarantee of current provision.

The programme leads from IGCSE to the IB Diploma in sixth form. Reported 2025 IGCSE results for 73 pupils show 61.3% A*/A grades. For the 2023 IB Diploma, published figures give an average of 33, a 97% pass rate and 14% above 40 points; a directory reports a 2025 average of 35. Keep the years and source types separate, and request current results with candidate numbers. Families seeking A Levels should explore a different sixth-form programme.

Admissions and cost

Day and boarding fees, deposits and tax questions

The published 2026–27 full-boarding fee is RM259,800 annually before tax. The school’s 2026–27 schedule lists day fees of RM63,000 for Nursery, RM119,400 for Pre-Prep (Reception–Year 3) and RM166,800 for the Sixth Form. It also lists a RM2,000 registration fee, a RM5,000 acceptance fee for day pupils (RM7,500 for boarders, RM2,500 for Nursery) and a refundable one-term deposit, with sibling discounts of 5% for a third child and 10% for a fourth. Obtain the school’s current quotation and refund conditions.

The school’s 2026–27 fee page states that its fees are subject to 6% SST, so budget for tax on top of the listed amounts. The UK school’s reported 2026–27 fees are £64,035 for boarding and £51,228 for day attendance including VAT. Different tax bases, currencies and inclusions prevent a fixed percentage-saving claim.

The family experience

Travel, housing and boarding routines

A cross-border guide describes a coach from Dempsey in Singapore, with a reported 07:00 departure and 16:30–18:00 return, and annual charges of RM13,000–36,000. Treat those as secondary timetable and price information. Border delays and after-school activities can change the practical journey.

For a child entering boarding from Year 5, ask which house they would join, who supervises overnight and how homesickness is handled. School materials describe resident staff, single-sex houses and scheduled leave weekends, often called exeats. The farm, lake and golf range are campus features; confirm the activities and supervision actually available at weekends. A weekend visit can help families assess that routine.
