A 2023 KOTRA survey of education-ministry data counted roughly 18 foreign-curriculum schools in Hanoi and 33 in Ho Chi Minh City. These are dated counts, including national-school options such as Korean, Japanese and French schools. Hanoi’s diplomatic, UN, NGO and business communities contribute to demand, but availability must be checked for the individual school and year group. ↗

UNIS, BIS and Concordia offer different programmes, but they are not the only schools to consider. Start with the subjects, qualifications and support your child needs, then compare suitable campuses. Our curriculum guide explains the main differences between IB, British and American programmes.

UNIS Hanoi teaches the IB continuum on its Ciputra campus. External sources describe a 20% limit for any one nationality; confirm whether this affects an application for your child’s grade. ↗

UNIS’s 2026–27 fees are set in US dollars, with a VND equivalent on the debit note. Secondary tables give approximate annual tuition of VND 455 million for Kindergarten 1–2, 869 million for Grades 1–5, 918 million for Grades 6–8 and 1.04 billion for Grades 11–12. The reviewed profile records a USD 600 application fee and USD 1,750 enrolment fee. A USD 1,500 tuition deposit is credited against tuition, so it should not be counted again as an extra annual charge. ↗

UNIS’s scholarship programme is described as covering tuition through graduation for eligible Vietnamese students from low-income public-school backgrounds entering Grades 7–10. Reported support also includes transport, supplies and activities.

BIS Hanoi offers a British curriculum through IGCSE, followed by the IB Diploma. Its Vinhomes Riverside campus opened as BVIS in 2012 and became BIS in 2013; it joined Nord Anglia in 2015. Published 2026–27 annual tuition ranges from VND 253.6 million for Foundation half-day attendance to VND 970.2 million for Years 12–13. Joining charges include a VND 4.5 million application fee, registration of VND 23.6 million for Foundation or VND 70.8 million for Primary and Secondary, and a refundable VND 23.6 million security deposit subject to withdrawal terms. ↗

Concordia Hanoi offers an American curriculum and AP courses at Van Tri in Dong Anh. Published 2026–27 annual tuition is VND 558.0 million for Preschool, 677.9 million for Reception, 861.8 million for Grades 1–5, 912.2 million for Grades 6–8, 1,002.0 million for Grades 9–10 and 1,038.8 million for Grades 11–12, rounded here to one decimal place; joining charges are additional. ↗

Other options include Hanoi International School in Ba Dinh, the bilingual British Vietnamese International School at Royal City, St Paul American School, Singapore International School and Lycée Français Alexandre Yersin. Compare the specific campus, teaching languages and senior qualifications. Broad “budget” or “premium” labels can conceal differences in age groups, tuition inclusions and joining fees. ↗

Tay Ho and Ciputra offer housing near West Lake and UNIS, though a Tay Ho address does not always mean a short journey once each parent’s workplace, bus pickup and the return after activities are included.

Long Bien is home to BIS Hanoi’s Vinhomes Riverside campus. A journey from Tay Ho or Ba Dinh may require a river crossing. Test the proposed route at drop-off and pickup times before choosing housing; nearby homes also need a practical access check.

Ba Dinh and Dong Anh provide other locations. Hanoi International School and Singapore International School options appear in the central Ba Dinh area. Concordia is farther north at Van Tri, Dong Anh, toward Noi Bai airport.

The reviewed schools generally follow an August-to-June year. UNIS, BIS and Concordia do not publish waiting lists; availability depends on the grade and start date. ↗

Admissions requirements may include school records, an assessment, references and identity or residence documents. Ask which steps can be completed remotely and whether nationality or residence status affects the application; a parent’s work permit does not resolve every enrolment or immigration question.

For a mid-year move, ask how the school handles placement, completed coursework and support. In examination years, check whether subject combinations match the previous programme. A January start does not automatically mean more available places or an easier transition.
