What the school is

The distinction between BIS and BVIS

BIS Hanoi and the bilingual British Vietnamese International School (BVIS) are distinct schools. BIS teaches its international programme at Vinhomes Riverside; BVIS moved to Royal City in 2013. The two are easily confused, and they differ in campus and teaching language.

The school’s recruitment material reports more than 1,000 pupils from over 30 nationalities. External reviews describe a roughly even split between Vietnamese and other nationalities; this is a reported snapshot rather than a current admissions rule.

BIS Hanoi is part of the for-profit Nord Anglia group. It promotes the Global Campus platform and collaborations with The Juilliard School, MIT, UNICEF and IMG Academy.

IGCSE then IB — and results the school publishes

The primary programme combines the English National Curriculum with the International Primary Curriculum. Students take Cambridge IGCSEs in Years 10–11 and then the IB Diploma in Years 12–13, for which the school has been authorised since 2016. Senior subject combinations and entry requirements matter most for a child transferring during examination courses.

The school reports a 2026 IB average of 35.11 points against a worldwide 30.88, with two scores of 45 and about one in seven candidates scoring at least 40. Its reported 2025 average was 33.24. Publications also describe offers across ten graduating cohorts from more than 350 universities, including Stanford, Yale, Cambridge, UCL, NUS, Melbourne and Toronto. These are offers, not eventual destinations, and the published figures do not include candidate numbers.

The school announced a scholarship programme for 2026–27 in January 2026. The announcement did not give eligibility rules, award values or deadlines. BIS also offers the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and participates in FOBISIA.

Admissions and cost

The official 2026–27 annual tuition schedule lists these amounts in millions of VND: Foundation 1 half-day 253.6 and full-day 343.1; Foundation 2 360.9; Foundation 3 510.8; Year 1 657.6; Years 2–4 715.5; Years 5–6 734.6; Years 7–9 846.8; Years 10–11 893.2; and Years 12–13 970.2. Payment is available across three terms; confirm the due dates and amounts in the applicable schedule.

Tuition includes school uniforms, daily lunches, snacks for Early Years and Primary, learning materials, day trips, mandatory international examination fees for Secondary and teacher-led co-curricular activities. Obtain a list of exclusions, such as any transport, residential trips or specialist provision. Compare complete quotations for the same year group rather than infer a price advantage from tuition alone.

The schedule lists a non-refundable VND 4.5 million application fee and registration of VND 23.6 million for Foundation or VND 70.8 million for Primary and Secondary. A refundable VND 23.6 million security deposit is subject to withdrawal terms, including 90 days’ written notice. Ask how the rules apply to a short-notice relocation and whether any other deductions or conditions apply.

The school’s FAQ describes an admissions process of no more than two weeks from first contact to offer and almost 1,000 enquiries a year; availability still varies by year group.

The Long Bien school journey and community

The campus is on Hoa Lan Road in Vinhomes Riverside, Long Bien. A home in Tay Ho or Ba Dinh may require a river crossing, while a nearby home still needs a practical drop-off check. Test the proposed journey at school-run times and ask about bus pickup, return routes and arrangements after activities.
