International schools in Accra, Ghana

Accra offers Cambridge, IB, American and French school options. Fees may be quoted in dollars, cedis or euros, with different rules for conversion and payment. Third-party price tiers are a starting list of schools, not current fees.↗

Lincoln Community School in Abelemkpe offers PYP, MYP and DP alongside an American High School Diploma. Official 2026–27 tuition is US$16,985 for Pre-K, US$25,001 for Grades 1–5 and US$29,589 for Grades 11–12. A new Grade 1 pupil’s tuition, application, registration and annual maintenance total US$37,201 before transport, meals and extras. ↗

Lincoln quotes dollars for foreign nationals and accepts cedis at a Business Office rate based on the Bank of Ghana reference. Confirm the rate and date before paying. Its terms exclude refunds for temporary closure following diplomatic evacuation or force majeure; the clause says nothing about the school’s clientele or local risk.↗

Ghana International School was founded in September 1955 and is on 2nd Circular Road in Cantonments. It reports CIS and NEASC accreditation and offers Cambridge programmes through IGCSE and A levels, plus BTEC Music and Creative Media. A current official fee schedule was not publicly available. The nationality and residency categories come from a 2018 press account; October 2025 press estimates of US$6,000–9,000 for primary and US$10,000–16,000 for secondary are historical, not current quotes.↗

GIS and Lincoln offer different qualifications, but both may support university applications in several countries. Compare subject combinations and admission requirements rather than treating A levels as UK-only or IB as the sole route for mobile families. Our curriculum guide explains the differences.

Al-Rayan International School, founded in 2003 in East Legon, reports PYP, MYP, DP and Career-related programmes. Its reported 2025 pass rates are 98% for MYP, 94.4% for DP and 100% for CP; these concern different programmes and need cohort context. Current fees were not publicly available. Association International School in Airport Residential is another option with IB authorisation.↗

• German Swiss International School. A German- and English-language option; ask about operating grades and qualifications before planning a transfer.↗

The Lycée Français International Jacques Prévert publishes euro-denominated fees with categories by level and nationality. The official 2024–25 schedule ranges from €4,650 to €10,200 and lists a €3,500 first-registration charge. These are historical figures.↗

SOS-Hermann Gmeiner International College and Tema International School offer boarding and IB programmes in Tema. SOS-HGIC was founded in 1990 by SOS Children’s Villages; Tema International was established in 2003. Historical press estimates in different currencies are too inconsistent for a boarding budget; ask each school for entry grades, residential arrangements and total charges.↗ ↗

National examination fees. Reports from late 2025 and January 2026 describe a dispute over BECE examination fees, with the reported charge rising from GH₵85 in 2021 to GH₵350.82 in 2025. GNACOPS first called for registration to pause, then directed schools to register candidates in January 2026. That dispute concerns the national BECE; Cambridge and IB examination charges are set separately. ↗ ↗

Beyond Accra and Tema. Takoradi International School appears in the British Council Ghana partner-school list and in school directories, for families considering the Western Region. We found no comparable shortlist for Kumasi. ↗

Exchange rates affect the amount paid in the family’s income currency. Each school sets its invoice currency, conversion rule and payment date, and a Business Office quote can differ from the Bank of Ghana interbank rate.↗

If fees are fixed in dollars, a stronger cedi reduces their cedi equivalent, all else equal; a weaker cedi increases it. For cedi-priced fees paid from dollar income, the direction is reversed. Actual costs also depend on fee changes and conversion charges. Ask whether an employer’s allowance covers the invoice or a fixed amount in another currency.

Build the budget from individual items: tuition, joining fees, recurring levies, support, transport, meals, activities and housing. An overall family-cost estimate or an assumed tuition percentage cannot replace quotes for the arrangements you will use.↗

Cantonments contains GIS, while Lincoln is in Abelemkpe and Association International is in Airport Residential. ARIS is in East Legon. Similar neighbourhood names can cover very different journeys, so map exact campuses before committing to housing.↗

NaSIA publishes registration and licensing procedures involving documentation, inspection and approval, and a school’s current status can be verified with the authority. An international curriculum or association membership does not replace local licensing requirements.↗

Useful information to request includes:

• Registration. Current registration or licensing details, which NaSIA can verify.
• External review. Distinguish accreditation, IB authorisation, examination-centre status and association membership; each claim has its own listing and scope.
• Parent experience. Families’ accounts of their own child’s grade and support needs, as one perspective alongside school information.
• Classroom provision. Class sizes, staff continuity, support arrangements, safeguarding information and recent results with cohort sizes.

Calendars and admissions processes differ by school. Lincoln uses an applicant pool when a grade fills and is described as accepting applications throughout the year. Assessment methods and entry dates vary, and a general relocation timeline is no guarantee of a place.↗

For a mid-year start or short posting, request a written calculation using the exact arrival and departure dates. Lincoln’s fee schedule has late-entry and refund conditions: fees are not necessarily prorated evenly by month, and some charges are non-refundable.↗
