Start with the language and curriculum your child needs, then check eligibility and space in the right grade. TAS and TES are useful starting points, but neither is the only school to consider.

Taipei American School teaches an American curriculum in Tianmu, with AP and IB study options in high school. Taipei European School offers British, French and German sections, with primary pupils in Shilin and secondary pupils on Yangmingshan.

For a younger child, compare the classroom language, daily routine and support for joining a new school. For a teenager, ask first about subjects, transferred credits and the final qualification. The most useful comparison depends on the child’s stage.

The foreign-national school category is defined in Taiwan’s education regulations. TAS and TES publish the documentation they require from applicants, and eligibility turns on the child’s documents, not only a parent’s passport.

TAS requires a foreign passport and a supporting nationality document. TES requires a foreign passport and proof of legal residence. Ask admissions to review your child’s documents, especially for a dual-national household, before paying an application charge.

These requirements should not be extended to every bilingual or experimental education provider. If your child does not qualify for one school category, ask the education bureau about other routes rather than assume there is no suitable provision.

Xinsheng Elementary School’s Chinese Learning Program helps eligible children of returning overseas professionals and foreign nationals working in Taiwan. Pupils join regular age-based classes and receive individual Mandarin support. A committee assesses language level and eligibility.

The application process involves the child’s home school sending documents to Xinsheng’s counselling office. Requirements include residence or identity documents, a parent’s employment evidence, vaccination records and applicable overseas school reports. Contact the programme about referral and assessment before assuming a place is available.

Yangming High School’s 2026–27 international-class notice offers 30 places through student assessment and a parent interview. Eligibility depends on specified foreign-professional or overseas-talent categories. The published application window ended on 26 June 2026. This is a selective public-school route, not general admission for every foreign family.

TAS distinguishes eligibility from priority. Once a child qualifies, the school’s categories give priority first to families with an American Institute in Taiwan employee, then to families with a US-passport parent. Other families remain eligible for consideration.

Applications open on 1 August of the preceding school year. The school reports that many grades fill by April for first-semester entry, so an open application form does not mean an available seat in your child’s grade.

In 2026–27, annual tuition is NT$956,770 for Pre-K–Grade 5 or NT$1,055,105 for Grades 6–12. Those totals include the NT$50,000 deposit. The NT$350,000 new-student capital charge is additional and applies per student.

TES’s British secondary section says the IB Middle Years Programme replaces IGCSE from 2026. This matters most for pupils transferring during an examination course.

French-section students follow the French curriculum toward the Baccalauréat. German-section students can progress to the German-English bilingual IB Diploma in Klassen 11–12. These are different qualifications, even though pupils belong to the same school.

Published 2026–27 school fees range from NT$208,800 per semester for British half-day Nursery to NT$418,000 for the senior groups. New-student registration is NT$50,000. Prescribed language and learning support are additional.

TES normally admits at the start of a semester and uses a waiting pool rather than a first-come list. For August entry, its main application window runs from September to January. Short-notice overseas moves are considered individually.

Morrison Academy’s Taipei campus is in Linkou, New Taipei. It is worth investigating if its Christian programme and location fit your family; the campus handles grades, subjects, fees and eligibility directly.

Dominican International School

Dominican is a Catholic school in Taipei. Its application checklist requires the child’s valid foreign passport and a valid foreign passport from at least one parent. It also lists school records, recommendations and residence or dual-nationality documents.

Its 2026–27 schedule lists NT$634,691 for Grades 9–10, combining annual tuition, registration and miscellaneous charges. The new-student placement fee of NT$25,000 and entrance test of NT$6,000 are separate. English support, AP courses and examinations may add further costs.

Lycée International Français de Taipei

LIFT is a separate French school in Xinyi, distinct from TES’s French section. The AEFE directory recognises its programme from CP through Sixième. It lists Cinquième and Quatrième without that recognition, so transfer arrangements for later grades matter if your child will stay beyond Sixième.

Taipei Adventist American School

TAAS serves Grades 1–8, so families need to plan a separate high-school transfer. Its 2026–27 tuition is NT$225,000 per semester for Grades 1–4 and NT$249,000 for Grades 5–8. New applicants pay NT$3,500 to apply and new pupils pay NT$55,000 to enrol; annual registration is NT$32,000. These are distinct charges.

English-language support costs NT$52,500 or NT$63,000 per semester, depending on level. Learning support has separate charges. Admission depends on whether the school can meet the child’s needs, and continued placement in the next grade is not guaranteed if those needs exceed its provision. Send existing assessments before applying.

The regular transport service covers several Taipei districts, subject to an agreed route. The 5 p.m. activity bus only travels to Shilin MRT station, so someone needs to meet your child there; it is not the same arrangement as the regular homeward service.

Before paying, request the current withdrawal terms in writing. The English and Chinese versions of TAAS’s published refund policy describe different qualifying periods, so we have not treated either as a settled deadline here.

Taipei Kuei Shan School in Beitou is a Christian day school combining IB programmes with Taiwan’s curriculum standards. Its school profile describes teaching in kindergarten, primary and middle school as roughly half English and half Mandarin; high-school teaching is in English apart from Chinese. It welcomes pupils from different nationalities and faith backgrounds, with daily devotion and monthly chapel forming part of school life.

For a child new to Mandarin, ask Kuei Shan about entry assessment and the language help available in the intended grade. Current fees and individual learning-support capacity need confirmation. Its ACSI membership should not be read as an ACSI accreditation award.

Kang Chiao’s Xiugang campus in Xindian serves Grades 7–12. Its application page accepts Taiwanese pupils and requires valid residence and health documents from foreign applicants. Overseas applicants must arrange Chinese testing, and transfer records may need authentication.

The same school group lists separate Qingshan, Linkou and Hsinchu campuses with different age ranges. Programmes, admission rules, fee schedules and any boarding offer are set campus by campus, so get the details for the exact campus in writing.

Tianmu, central Shilin, Yangmingshan and Linkou create different daily journeys. Afternoon arrangements matter as much as the morning run, particularly if a parent works elsewhere in the city.

TAS offers buses for Grades 1–12; TES states that bus service is available from age seven. Younger siblings may need a separate plan. Ask about route availability and late activity buses before treating transport as settled.

For TES siblings on different campuses, check both pickup points and departure times. The shortest journey to the primary campus may not produce the easiest routine for the whole family.

Ask each school for a written calculation for your child’s grade and year of entry. Keep tuition, additional mandatory charges, credited deposits and optional services separate. This makes employer-allowance comparisons and multi-child budgets much easier.

TES publishes separate language-support and learning-support charges; TAS lists required outdoor programmes for particular grades and a required Middle School laptop purchase. Your child’s year group and support plan determine which costs apply.

Check the refund deadlines before accepting. A delayed relocation or early departure can change what is recoverable. Use the individual profiles for the dated fee schedules and the precise questions to ask.
