The British School of Bahrain (BSB) is an all-through British-curriculum school in Hamala teaching children aged 3 to 18 from over 90 nationalities.

Established in 1996, it is the Middle East school of Inspired Education — the for-profit global premium-schools group founded in 2013 — and its stated vision is to be the leading school in Bahrain by drawing on that network.↗↗

For an expat family, the practical summary is this: BSB is the premium, group-resourced alternative to Bahrain’s not-for-profit flagships. It holds both of the market’s top external endorsements, publishes a full fee schedule, and offers rare sibling discounts.

The counterweights are structural: it is part of a for-profit global chain, it sits at the premium end of the fee table, and the main entry years carry waitlists.

What the school is

Group scale with local top marks

BSB’s May 2024 British Schools Overseas inspection — hosted on the school’s own website — judged that the school provides an excellent quality of education, the highest BSO accolade. The same report records the school’s scale: 1,453 boys and 1,319 girls, including 151 children aged 3–5 and 294 students aged 17–18.

The school also holds COBIS accreditation and is rated Outstanding by Bahrain’s BQA in the regulator’s published review cycles.↗↗

Ownership is the distinguishing structural fact. BSB belongs to Inspired Education, the global group founded by Nadim Nsouli in 2013 that operates premium schools across 24 countries on five continents.

That brings group-level teacher recruitment, shared programmes and network transfers — and it means fee income ultimately answers to a for-profit group, unlike Bahrain’s not-for-profit schools.

Neither model is inherently better, but they optimise for different things, and Bahrain is one of the few markets where you can directly compare the two at the same quality tier.↗↗

Admissions and cost

Published fees, stepped registration charges — and actual sibling discounts

BSB publishes a full fee schedule. For 2026/27, annual tuition runs BHD 3,342 in Nursery, BHD 4,419 in Reception to Year 2, BHD 5,052–5,319 across Years 3–6, BHD 6,342–6,744 across Years 7–9, BHD 7,092 in Years 10–11, and BHD 8,991–9,081 in Years 12–13.

GCSE and A-level exam fees are additional, and a BHD 40 per year EdTech fee applies from Year 3.↗↗

One-time and recurring extras are stepped by phase: a BHD 50 application fee, and registration fees of BHD 100 in early years rising to BHD 250 in the senior school.

Notably for a premium school, BSB offers sibling discounts — 10% off tuition for the third enrolled child and 25% for the fourth and fifth — which materially changes the maths for large families comparing it against schools that offer none.↗

On timing, the market guidance is consistent: BSB holds significant waitlists for Year 1 and Year 7, and families relocating to Bahrain should start applications six to twelve months ahead, ideally before arriving.

The school operates Sunday to Thursday, 7:30am to 3:30pm, and runs a school bus service — Bahrain school-bus costs typically run BHD 400–700 per year depending on distance.↗↗

Hamala, the west-side commute and the group network

The campus is at Building 1080, Road 1425, Block 1014 in Hamala, on Bahrain’s western side — convenient to Saar, Budaiya and the causeway-side communities, a longer run from Amwaj or the eastern neighbourhoods. As ever, test the morning journey at school-run time before signing a lease.↗

The Inspired network is the school’s own headline: shared programmes, inter-school events and the possibility of transfers within a 24-country group. For globally mobile families, it is worth asking concretely what that means — which programmes actually run between schools, and what a transfer to another Inspired school would look like mid-education.

The answer separates genuine network value from brochure value.
