What the school is

A 1957 foundation school with a British-to-IB pathway

Patana was founded in 1957 to educate the children of Bangkok’s expatriate community and remains a non-profit foundation — the school states it is non-selective and not-for-profit in its own profile documents.

The 2025/26 community spans 68 nationalities: 20% Thai, 14% British, 11% North American, 7% Indian and 7% Chinese, with 1,126 students in the secondary school and a graduating class of 144.↗

The accreditation stack satisfies Thailand’s regulatory rule that every international school hold recognised overseas accreditation by its fifth year: Patana is an IB World School accredited by CIS and NEASC, a FOBISIA founding member from 1988, and is recognised by the US State Department as suitable for US government employees — a rare practical endorsement for American diplomatic families.↗↗

Published results: 65% A*/A at IGCSE, 36-point IB average

Patana publishes its outcomes. For 2025, 65% of (I)GCSE grades were A*/A (7–9) and 85% were A*–B; the 2026 IB Diploma cohort posted a 99% pass rate, a 36-point average among passing students, and 22% scoring 40 or above — comfortably above the roughly 30-point world average.↗

University destinations in recent years include Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial, LSE, UCL, Stanford, Penn, NYU and Boston University, across a graduating class of about 130–145 — scale that makes the destination list statistically meaningful rather than anecdotal.

The switch from IGCSE to IB at sixteen is the one structural decision families must buy into: if you want A-levels, Patana is not the school.↗

Fees and the real cost

2025/26 fees — entrance fee, deposit and the capital assessment

Patana publishes a formal fee announcement. For 2025/26, annual tuition runs from THB 495,000 in Nursery to THB 810,000 in Years 7–9 and THB 975,000 in Year 12.

One-time and recurring extras: a THB 250,000 non-refundable entrance fee for the first child, a THB 50,000 refundable deposit, and a THB 30,000 per year Capital Assessment Fee. The 2026/27 schedule was not yet published at research time — treat these as the latest official figures and confirm the new cycle with admissions.↗

Budget beyond the headline. Secondary sources report an EAL fee around THB 105,000 for Years 1–9 where English support is required — confirm the current figure and the assessment threshold with the school — and the bus, lunch, uniform, IB exam fees and residential trips all sit outside tuition.

Admissions

Non-selective but full: the middle-years waitlist reality

Patana is non-selective in principle — there is no academic cut-off — but capacity is the constraint.

Admissions testing covers English literacy and mathematics with a written task and interview for older children, and secondary sources consistently identify Years 3–8 as the pinch points with long waiting lists; the realistic entry points are Pre-KG, KG1–2, Year 1 and Years 9–10. Sibling priority and a waitpool both apply.↗

Bang Na, the bus fleet and the school-run equation

The campus sits at 643 Lasalle Road (Sukhumvit 105) in Bang Na — Bangkok’s south-eastern school cluster — with three swimming pools, an indoor sports centre, rugby pitches and the 600-seat Rosamund Stuetzel theatre.

It is not a walk-to-school location for most expat housing: Patana operates a bus fleet reported at over 100 buses covering most of central Bangkok, and guides note Bang Na routes can run an hour each way at peak.↗↗

The housing logic follows the traffic: families choosing Patana tend to live along the Bang Na–Bearing–On Nut corridor or accept the bus as a fact of life from Sukhumvit.

Parents who have run the route advise testing the actual pickup time for your neighbourhood before committing — a 6:45am bus is a different childhood from an 8:00am walk. The community itself is the most established of any Bangkok school, with generations of alumni in the city.
